THE UNIVERSAL SUFISM The Sufi Message is a Message of Unity, of Spiritual Liberty, and of Love, Harmony and Beauty, destined for all humanity. Its purpose is not to draw seekers to a new path, but to awaken them to the path, which they are destined to tread. Truth is One; it cannot be otherwise. Therefore the Sufi finds the light and love of the Divine Spirit of Guidance hidden in all names and forms. The effort of the Sufi Message is to give the opportunity to those serious seekers after truth that they may come in touch with the deeper side of life. No doubt truth is never taught, truth is discovered. It is not the wonderworking, it is not the life of phenomena that is the sign of the seeker. It is in the search for truth that God is found; it is in the finding of God that truth is realized. But where is God to be found? God is to be found in the heart of man.(Hazrat Inayat Khan) The Divine message, which comes in all ages under different names, is now the message of wisdom. This message is not meant for a certain culture or is it destined for just one part of the world; it is for the whole of humanity. (Hidayat Inayat Khan ) HAZRAT INAYAT KHAN Hazrat Inayat Khan was born in Baroda, India, on July 5, 1882, into a family of great musicians. After establishing himself at an early age as a master musician and then working for the revival of interest in the spiritual heritage of Indian music, he received initiation from his Sufi teacher and trained in the four major Indian schools of Sufism: Chishti, Naqshibandi, Qadiri and Suhrawardi. In 1910 when his training was completed, he left India for the West and lectured extensively in Europe and America. Hazrat Inayat Khan died on February 5, 1927. BRANCHES Brotherhood There is one Brother-and Sisterhood, the Human Brotherhood, which unites the children of the earth indiscriminately in the Fatherhood of God. Universal Worship The Universal Worship is a school where we can learn the lesson of tolerance, learn to adhere to all teachers and to respect all scriptures. This lesson teaches us that we need not give up our religion, but we must embrace all religions in order to make the sacredness of religion perfect. The Ceremony of Universal Worship is a devotional service that offers reverence, homage and gratitude to the one Source of all light, while symbolically acknowledging all the names and religious forms through which the light of Truth has shone. The Inner School The Inner School of the Sufi Movement is the Activity dedicated to inner culture, the realization of the Self. This path is understood as a serious endeavour, entered upon by taking initiation through a guide or teacher. Spiritual Healing "The vocation of spiritual healing is a special gift and cannot be taught or learned. The secret of spiritual healing resides in the absence of the self when confronted with the all-pervading Healing Power." Symbology The Symbology Activity is in pursuit of a deeper understanding of symbols in our daily life. The Activity is embodied in two ceremonies, Zirat and the Element Ritual. Ten Sufi Thoughts 1. There is one God, the Eternal, the Only Being; none else exists save God. 2. There is one Master, the Spirit of Guidance of all souls, who constantly leads all followers towards the light. 3. There is one Holy Book, the sacred manuscript of Nature, which truly enlightens all readers. 4. There is one Religion, the unswerving progress in the right direction towards the ideal, which fulfils the life's purpose of every soul. 5. There is one Law, the law of Reciprocity, which can be observed by a selfless conscience together with a sense of awakened justice. 6. There is one human Brotherhood, the Brotherhood and Sisterhood which unites the children of earth indiscriminately in the Fatherhood of God. 7. There is one Moral Principle, the love that springs forth from self-denial, and blooms in deeds of beneficence. 8. There is one Object of Praise, the beauty that uplifts the heart of its worshipper through all aspects from the seen to the unseen. 9. There is one Truth, the true knowledge of our being within and without which is the essence of all wisdom. 10. There is one Path, the annihilation of the false ego in the real, which raises the mortal to immortality and in which resides all perfection.
